F. A. Q.
Q. When do I book a newborn session?
A. Soon! I am taking a limited number of newborn clients based on due dates. The best time to do sleepy, curled up baby portraits is between day 5-14. These must be set up in advance to be prepared.
Please call in your second trimester if at all possible.
Q. What if my baby is fussy during our session?
A, No worries. There are many techniques for soothing babies to sleep. The detailed information guide will give you tips for a successful session. We will also allow plenty of extra time to console or feed your baby if needed. Patience is usually the best cure.
Q. What is a newborn session like?
A. Baby runs the show! If your baby doesn't like any pose we will just move on to another one. We can take breaks as much as we need to for feeding or soothing. The order we go will depend on if it is an awake or sleepy time. We will usually do a set of photos with a plain backdrop on a beanbag. These are all about baby alone. I will swaddle baby and do any family photos. Then I try to have at least 2 props or scenes set up in advance to use. The basic dressings include one outfit, several wraps, multiple hats or headbands. We can sometimes add another outfit or prop if baby is sleeping and time is left in our 2 hours. We will discuss the basic colors and props before the session, but the details/hats/headbands can be chosen during the photoshoot. Mom or Dad or someone you choose will be close by during the session to keep an extra eye or hand on baby.
Q. When do I get my photos?
A. I will do a quick edit to give you an idea of what the poses will look like. In about 3 days, these low resolution photos will go in a gallery with a logo on them. You can choose the ones you want and I will edit those photos completely and get the full resolution, edited photos to you within a week after I receive your choices. 5 photos are included in the session fee. Any extras you picked can be paid for when they are ready. I never give out the raw files or the files that are not fully edited. So, be sure you order anything you want to keep during this process! If you order canvas prints, they can take up to 2 weeks to deliver, and we can work out a plan to get them to you.
Q. What about photoshop?
A. I do a good bit of editing to newborn photographs. Babies in the age range of the first two weeks will usually have uneven skin tones, and scratches from little fingernails. I generally will leave anything that is a permanent feature (birthmark, freckle, etc.) but 'erase' any extra baby acne or scratches. I usually take the yellow or red tint out of a baby's skin as well. We can discuss any concerns or questions about photoshopping in our initial consultation.
Q. How do I book my session, and what if I have to cancel?
A. Newborns are tentatively scheduled based on the due date, and will be adjusted as needed (since this is partly up to baby!) To reserve any appointment, a deposit (session fee) must be received. If you are a doing a Just Born or First Year plan, this amount applies to your total, and is not in addition to the prices for those plans. If you or your child is sick, please notify me as soon as possible to reschedule for the next available time slot. Deposits are not refundable, but we will work with you to reschedule for a convenient time. Text me at 901-830-9813 or email [email protected] to book
Q. Can I share my photographs online?
A. Absolutely! After you choose your proofs, I will edit those photos and send you the files. Each image is given individual attention and I spend hours editing to make sure your portraits are perfect! I usually do a quick edit for proofs to give you an idea of how your finished piece will look. After you have placed an order, each image will be carefully edited, along with any artwork you desire to give you a beautiful finished product. I want to be sure that you are able to use your portraits and enjoy them for many years. Also, feel free to tag yourself in any photo that is shared on my social media. But please respect copyright laws, and do not edit these photos.
Q. What will I need to bring to the session?
A. Most of what we will need is all set up. After we discuss color palettes and plans, I will have some wraps and backgrounds and accessories ready for your session. Extra diapers, milk and a beautiful baby should be the only necessities. A pacifier is extremely helpful if you are using them at home.
